50-Year Breeders: Janice and Risty Schmidt

by Richard Chamberlain for  The American Quarter Horse Journal
Janice and Risty Schmidt are retired teachers in Ontario who have had American Quarter Horses longer than  Canada has had the maple leaf on its flag.
"I've had Quarter Horses since 1964," Risty says. "In those days, we'd show halter in the morning and reining and pleasure in the afternoon - with the same horses! Jan and I were partners in horses even before we married. We built our barn and our house -in that order - and started to collect the best mares we could afford. "

50-Year Breeders: William and Heidi Robinson of Wildwood Ranches

By Jessica Carr and Kaycie Timm for  The American Quarter Horse Journal
In the middle of the vast mountainous terrain of British Columbia, William and Heidi Robinson made their home on  Wildwood Ranches , which is comprised of 65 acres in Okanagan Falls.
William's father, Jack, brought one of the first Quarter Horse stallions, Whispering Smith, into British Columbia in the 1950s. Jack introduced his son to Quarter Horses, and piqued William's interest in breeding.

COVID-19 CQHA
Urgent federal support is needed for Canada's Quarter Horses and working horses!
French version follows:

The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, impacts equine farms and equestrian facilities across Canada. They are dealing with considerable financial instability. As result of social insolation measures all public facing activities have stopped. Important revenue streams have dried up and business owners are challenged and, in some cases, unable to pay for basics such as animal care.
A recent study by Equestrian Canada indicates there were 46,501 horses and 8,455 equine facilities in Canada with one month or less of financial reserves and supplies as of April 6, 2020.
Without urgent government support, many equine owners including Quarter Horse owners, are now or will soon be facing difficult decisions.
CQHA is working with Equestrian Canada to urgently outline the important need for the federal government to set up an emergency relief fund to address this imminent threat to our industry, but we need your help to make it happen.
CQHA members can help in these difficult times.
It is important that you make your government representative aware of this dire challenge encountered by the horse industry and especially Quarter Horses which comprise the largest herd in Canada.
Please make a phone call or send an email to your Member of Parliament and tell them you support EC's urgent appeal being made on behalf of all horse owners in Canada.
